Professional knowledge matters.
Research matters.
Treatment matters.
So does lived experience.
The person who has spent years waking up with depression knows something about mornings that a definition cannot fully capture.
The person who has buried somebody knows something about the strange ordinary days after loss.
The parent caring for a struggling child knows things about that household no assessment sees in an hour.
Lived experience should not replace professional knowledge.
Professional knowledge should not erase lived experience either.
Some of our best understanding begins when both are allowed to speak.
