Migration can create opportunity and grief in the same suitcase.

People leave Jamaica for work, education, family, safety or possibility.

Then years later somebody asks:

“So where is home?”

And the answer becomes complicated.

The place you left changed.

You changed.

Your family changed while you were away.

Maybe you sound Jamaican abroad and foreign when you come home.

Belonging can stretch across borders without fitting neatly inside either one.

Sometimes carrying home means food, music, language, phone calls, humour and the particular way somebody says your childhood name.

Home may become less about one location and more about the things that still recognise you.
