Some days are for ambition.
Some days are for getting through.
The problem comes when we expect both kinds of day to look the same.
If you are grieving, depressed, anxious, sick, exhausted or overwhelmed, your normal level of productivity may not be available.
That does not mean the day is wasted.
Decide what actually matters today
Ask:
What absolutely needs to happen?
Not what would make today impressive.
What genuinely needs doing?
Take medication.
Feed yourself.
Go to the appointment.
Collect the child.
Answer one important message.
Everything else can be reconsidered.
Use the smaller version
Cannot cook?
Eat something simple.
Cannot clean the room?
Clear one surface.
Cannot exercise?
Stretch for two minutes if your body allows.
Cannot answer everybody?
Answer the person who genuinely needs a response.
Cannot fix the problem?
Write down the next action.
The smaller version still counts.
Do not borrow shame from tomorrow
You may have more capacity tomorrow.
You may not.
Today does not need to become evidence about your entire future.
It is one day.
Small days are part of life
Rest does not need to become a reward for collapse.
Sometimes survival itself uses energy other people cannot see.
Do what matters.
Leave what can wait.
Then let today be the size it needs to be.
